Game 3 at Verizon Center featured more goals

After two games in this Eastern Conference quarterfinal series left both the Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins wondering where their offense went, each rediscovered the ignition to their scoring touch Monday night.

Game 3 at Verizon Center featured more goals than the previous pair of contests combined, but as the series started to loosen up offensively, it was the Capitals who wound up on the losing end. Boston captured a 4-3 win — and a 2-1 series lead — thanks to Zdeno Chara's goal with 1 minute 53 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Bulls made a final run, getting the Rockets' now

The Rockets bench may have given the Bulls their mojo in the first half, but they were not about to provide that advantage again when they emerged in the second half. Chase Budinger and Earl Boykins combined for 14 fourth-quarter points, knocking down all four of Houston's three-point shots for the game and joining Patrick Patterson in scoring 25 of the reserves' 29 points for the game down the stretch.

The Bulls made a final run, getting the Rockets' now double-digit lead down to four when Courtney Lee, who had struggled throughout the game with his shooting (4-14, 13 points), knocked down a jumper to extended the lead back out to six with less than a minute left. The Rockets defense would then provide no opportunity for Kyle Korver (3-9, eight points) or Luol Deng (9-14, game-high 24 points) to three-point the Bulls back into the game as the Rockets closed out the road win.

No. 54 car for every race gives you that sense of brotherly love

"Everything's new to us, so we have to concentrate on these first five races and try to go test with Kurt during the break (after March 24) and kind of see the similarities or the differences," KBM crew chief Mike Beam said. "Then we'll have to make changes. So it's definitely going to be a challenge."
The brothers will split driving duties after the first five races.
"Just to have a Busch in that No. 54 car for every race gives you that sense of brotherly love, whereas we've been competitors our whole lives," Kurt said. "So this is a great chapter for us to start."

Accenture champion Geoff Ogilvy in the first round today

On Tuesday, the sociable and fan-friendly Bradley, 25, shaken by the critical outburst, apologized again at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship, where he meets two-time Accenture champion Geoff Ogilvy in the first round today.

"I was very surprised to see the replay of the telecast to see how much I was spitting," he said. "To be honest with you, I really had no idea I was doing it. And I feel bad. I just ask everybody to just kind of bear with me as I go through this, because it's something I've done without even knowing it. But I will do my best to stop. It's something that I'm glad has come up, because I'm able to kind of nip it now."

The Packers canceled their normal player availability to the news media Monday

The Packers canceled their normal player availability to the news media Monday, though several players posted Twitter messages about the situation.

"Tell someone you love them asap, you never know what tomorrow brings," offensive tackle Marshall Newhouse wrote.

Nose tackle B. J. Raji wrote, "Life is too short ... Live in the present."

Left guard T. J. Lang, whose father died last Thursday, wrote, "As children we all have to someday say goodbye to our parents, but a parent should never have to say goodbye to their child."

It was unclear what Joe Philbin's status would be for Sunday's game against the Giants. Philbin joined the Packers in 2003 and has been the offensive coordinator since 2007. In each season since he became coordinator, Green Bay has ranked in the top 10 in the league in scoring and total yards. The Packers' 560 points this season were the second-most in N.F.L. history. Green Bay also set franchise records for net passing yards (4,924) and total yards (6,482). Last week, he interviewed for head coaching jobs with the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs.

One of the false accounting charges against Mr. Adoboli dates to October 2008

One of the false accounting charges against Mr. Adoboli dates to October 2008 — at the height of the financial crisis and less than two years after he became a trader for UBS. The charge that Mr. Adoboli's rogue trading had been going on for years raises embarrassing questions about the bank's controls and oversight. After writing down more than $50 billion on bad subprime mortgage investments, the chief executive of UBS, Oswald J. GrĂ¼bel, had pledged to improve the bank's risk management when he took over in 2009.

The Financial Services Authority, Britain's equivalent of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and Swiss market regulators said on Friday that they would begin an independent investigation into the bank's "control failures."

With the charges going back to 2008, "it would seem there was a systematic pattern of trading," said Lindsay Thomas, managing director at Sustainable Risks, a risk management consulting firm, and a former director at the F.S.A.

Before he landed a job on the bank's trading desk, Mr. Adoboli had worked in its back-office support. UBS executives suspect that his knowledge of the bank's computer systems and protocols enabled him to override the internal controls that would have caught his trading, a person close to the bank said.

Representatives for UBS declined to comment.

This weekend, UBS managers are continuing to comb through dozens of trades made by Mr. Adoboli. The transactions under the microscope, according to a person briefed on the situation, typically began as client trades, packaged for either a hedge fund or for another arm of the bank.

There will never be a budget plan where all parties agree

holyghost at 6:48 PM July 19, 2011 There will never be a budget plan where all parties agree, but our lawmakers as they are elected by their districts should be looking for the COMMON GOOD, not just for their own naked greed for power or their constituents. Stop the blather and get to work or maybe YOU'LL be out of a job soon too....! HG
